The Toasters at NBT

The Toasters at New Brookland Tavern

October 27

If you’re into ska, chances are you’re into the Toasters. The granddaddies of NYC (and arguably American) ska have wrapped up a spring and summer tour in Europe, and are hitting the road stateside through the fall.

For those who might be unfamiliar with them, the Toasters incorporate the groove of reggae and 2 Tone era ska, but infuse it with elements of punk and soul; less a “ska punk” band, more like traditionalists with an edge. (They describe themselves as “the musical equivalent of a brass knuckle-duster.”) And they to only get better with age.

Having logged close to 30 years as a band, dozens of recordings, and too many shows to count, The Toasters have, needless to say, gone through a few lineup changes. Along with the bands founder and life’s blood, Rob “Bucket” Hingley, the current lineup features former members of The Beat, Mephiskapheles, and Westbound Train.

Even if you’re not into ska, you owe it to yourself to come check this show out. Toasters shows are generally devoid of skinny tie shtick and are simply upbeat, fun-ass romps.
