May 13

New Brookland Tavern

After a brief hiatus, the self-proclaimed “Scariest Band in the World” is back together, and on May 13, Deadbolt will make its triumphant return to Columbia at the New Brookland Tavern.

The San Diego-based band has been together since 1988, and over the years, they developed a unique sound that they describe as “voodoobilly.” The band combines elements of surf rock, goth, psychobilly, and blues, and ties everything together with singer Harley Davidson’s offbeat lyrics.  While the band no longer has its signature “Wall of Thunder” -- a two-man bass section -- it still knows how to make some noise.  And you can be sure that the sparks will fly when the band tunes up its power tools as part of the show.

Opening up for Deadbolt, Columbia’s own Capital City Playboys will take the stage with their own take on rockabilly.  The local band features local rockers Marty Fort, Jay Matheson, and Kevin Brewer.  All three are long-time Columbia musicians who are responsible for dozens of current and past local bands.  In addition, the Mercy Shot will start the night off on the right foot, fast and loud.

The New Brookland Tavern opens its doors at 8pm for the show. Tickets are $12 advance and $15 at the door.  Tickets are available online at www.etix.com and are able to be purchased at the New Brookland Tavern.
