SC Hip Hop

Sample ImagePeace and blessings! School’s back in session, the Olympics just
wrapped up, and the Giants are prepping that 2nd run at the Super
Bowl.  Hope all is well and good with y’all.  Congrats are still in
order to the Columbia City Paper on the 3rd B-Day.  The Ozone Awards
just wrapped up (shouts to JB), Lil Wayne just hit 2 million, Usher
just hit 1 million, and the summer is coming to a close.  Much love to
all the movers and shakers who put on for this city.  Let’s get it!

Dear hot Publix cashier,

   Dear hot Publix cashier,
OK, I’ll level with you. I don’t really need all this stuff. In
truth, most of it is just a smokescreen to hide my primary purchase:
this roll of Angel Soft double ply. But, it would be weird if I just
came in and bought that, like maybe I was having a major intestinal
emergency and raced down here in desperation. Huh? Oh no, I can hold
it. If it were a real emergency, I’d just grab some used fast food
napkins out of the trash at home.
So, now that we’ve cleared that up, what are you doing for dinner?

NEW: Ask A Mexican!

mexI'm Gustavo Arellano. I was born in Anaheim, California, to a tomato canner and an illegal immigrant. My ¡Ask a Mexican! column won the 2006 Association of Alternative Newsweeklies award for the best column in a largecirculation weekly. I'm a contributing editor to the Los Angeles Times and have appeared on Today, Nightline, NPR's On the Media, The Situation with Tucker Carlson, and The Colbert Report. I also mow lawns for $15 - $10 if I get a water break.
City Paper welcomes Gustavo Arellano and feel free to send your questions to

Dear Mexican,

My friend and I were wondering why Mexican girls are so beautiful
when they are teenagers, then over the years, they become fat, old bags?

Bad summer movies

A lesson in disappointment…

Again the Late Summer Doldrums arrive. The second dead space in the
movie release schedule is a bit more misleading than the earlier
dumping ground of January-April where we know most of the movies are
just crap.

S.C Hip Hop

Peace and blessings! July just left us and August is definitely in
full effect. The kids are back in school, the Olympics keep getting
better, and the NFL and NBA both are preparing for their 2008-2009
seasons. Doesn’t get any better. Congrats to Columbia City Paper on the
3rd B-Day and its expansion into Greenville. Hope this reaches all of
you in great spirits. Much love to all the movers and shakers who put
on for this fine state. Let’s get it!
